FAQ

  • What is GPS?

    GPS (Global Positioning System) is a global positioning system, which allows to determine the three-dimensional location of each earth, water or air object, 24 hours a day, regardless of weather conditions. GPS allows to continuously determine the coordinates and speed of moving objects, as well as the exact time at any point on the globe and in near-Earth space. The GPS constellation consists of 24 navigation satellites placed along 6 orbits around the Earth at an altitude of 20 200 km. The system is controlled from a command centre whose main station is located at the Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, USA. The system works with two types of signals sent simultaneously from each satellite: the encrypted PPS (Precise Positioning Service) signal used by the military, and the free SPS (Standard Positioning Service) signal used for civilian purposes.
  • What is GPRS?

    General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a non-voice technology that allows data transmission in a mobile telephone network. We use GPRS to transmit the data from GPS devices to the servers of GPS Bulgaria.
  • How does the vehicle monitoring system work?

    The GPS/GSM device installed in your vehicle gathers driving and status data according to various parameters. The collected data is transferred at short intervals of time through A1’s GSM network via GPRS or SMSto the servers of GPS Bulgaria. We provide you with a secure access to the web-based monitoring system Fleet Expert, where data on your vehicles is visualised.
  • Is there a limit to the number of users that can monitor the vehicles?

    There is no limit. We provide you with an account with administrator privileges. You can create an unlimited number of users who can be granted different user privileges.
  • What is the territorial scope of the vehicle monitoring system?

    The system works within the A1 network, as well as on the territory of the operator’s roaming partners. The GPS coverage is available anywhere in the world, with the exception of tunnels, underground garages etc..
  • What happens in the absence or suppression of the GSM signal?

    The GPS device uses А1's GSM network to transmit data on the movement and status of your vehicle. In the absence or suppression of а GSM network, the GPS device continues to work in the same mode using its internal memory to store the acquired data. Upon recovery of the signal, the data is automatically transferred to our servers.
  • What happens in the absence or jamming of the GPS signal?

    In areas without GPS coverage (tunnels, underground car parks, etc.), the GPS device cannot capture the GPS satellites required for determining its location. In this case, if a GSM network is available, the device sends data containing an invalid vehicle position.
  • How long does GPS Bulgaria store vehicle data on their servers?

    Vehicle data is available in the monitoring system Fleet Expert for a period of 6-12 months. You can store the generated reports locally on your computer for a randomly selected period of time.
  • On what type of vehicle can be mounted GPS device?

    GPS devices can be mounted on any vehicle type including road vehicles, boats, railway vehicles as well as motorised machines and equipment for the purpose of telemetric data transmission.
  • Are there any special requirements for the computer equipment from which monitoring will be performed?

    There are no requirements to the computer equipment. What you need is Internet access and one of the following browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, or Chrome.
  • Are there requirements to the Internet connection?

    We recommend a minimum Internet connection of 512 Kbps for the normal functioning of the system.
  • Do I need to buy and install any software?

    It is not necessary, since the Fleet Expert monitoring system is web-based and can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection.
  • Is the tracking of vehicles possible from a mobile phone or a smartphone?

    Yes, it is possible. To monitor your vehicles via mobile phone or tablet running on Android and iOS, download the mobile application Fleet Expert or А1 auto control (depending on the service you are using). The download and the usage within the А1 Bulgaria's network are free of charge. For all other mobile phones with browsers, use m.gps.bg.
  • How often is vehicle data refreshed?

    Vehicle data is refreshed at short intervals of time, if the vehicle is in driving mode. We offer different modes of data refreshing, depending on your individual needs, and taking into account whether the vehicle is drived only within Bulgaria and/or abroad.
  • What maps does the Fleet Expert monitoring system work with, and can I add my own maps?

    The Fleet Expert monitoring system works with Google Maps. There is an option to add your own maps as long as they are in a format suitable for integration. For more information, you can contact our 24/7 GPS Contact Centre.
  • What reports does the Fleet Expert monitoring system generate?

    The Fleet Expert monitoring system generates a variety of daily, weekly and monthly reports, including automated ones. You can get acquainted with some of them in the services description. Upon request, the system automatically sends the generated reports to your e-mail.
  • What alarms does the system report?

    Depending on the parameters that you have requested, the system sends alarms upon exceeding the speed limit, entering a forbidden zone, leaving the mandatory zone, pressing the panic button, activating the alarm system, opening the tank cap, unauthorized driver, oil lamp activation and so on.
  • How does the system measure the fuel level in the tank and with what accuracy?

    Depending on your individual needs, we offer four options for measuring the fuel level in the tank:
    Option I: Fuel level monitoring by a connection with the factory gauge of the vehicle. In this case, the monitoring of the fuel consists of transmission and visualisation of the data submitted by the factory gauge of the vehicle by installing a module connecting the level gauge signal in the vehicle to the GPS device. For proper reporting of this parameter, the following requirements should be met:
    • The factory gauge of the vehicle functions correctly without power interruptions and suspensions, and no sudden changes in readings;
    • If there is more than one tank, the tanks need to be connected at their lowest point with a line that is free of stop valves, and has a cross section of not less than ᴓ12 mm.
    The accuracy of the fuel monitoring measurement parameter by connecting to the factory gauge is directly related to the condition of the factory gauge and depends on its accuracy of measurement.
    Option II: Fuel level monitoring by installing an additional gauge. This option is suitable for vehicles whose tanks are connected in the upper part (2 gauges are needed) or in a vehicle having a defective factory gauge;
    Option III: Fuel level monitoring by installing a flow meter;
    Option IV: C Fuel level monitoring through a link to the on-board computer of the vehicle. Under all fuel monitoring options, excluding Option IV, after the installation of GPS equipment it is necessary to provide us with data on filling up the fuel tank(s) a minimum of three times for each vehicle. The data is filled in a GPS Bulgaria template form.
  • How do you calculate the mileage of the vehicle?

    Mileage is calculated by means of GPS coordinates and is independent of the odometer mileage of the vehicle. This allows for objective data on the distance travelled.
  • Is it possible to have system alerts when replacement of tires, filters, oils and other service work is needed?

    The Fleet Expert monitoring system has an integrated service module for easy and effective management of vehicle servicing activities (maintenance, insurance, repairs). Thus, you can easily keep track of replacement of consumables, parts, tires, insurance payments, vignettes, tolls, technical inspections, repairs, etc. The system alerts the users via SMS and/or e-mail about upcoming required servicing and other activities. It keeps statistical data on expenditures and other details of the activities described.
  • Is updating the Fleet Expert monitoring system and the digital maps free of charge?

    Yes, updating is free of charge. System and map updates are available for all our customers automatically once they are made.
  • How long does the installation of the device take?

    Depending on your requested monitoring parameters, the installation takes between 30 minutes and 6 hours.
  • Can the driver interfere with the operation of the GPS device?

    We install the device in a hidden, inaccessible location in the vehicle. In addition, we recommend that drivers do not attend the mounting of the devices.
  • Can I use my own SIM cards with the services provided by GPS Bulgaria?

    It is not possible as GPS Bulgaria uses specific range SIM cards.
